DEFRA releases further details about how the SFI scheme will operate in 2022.

DEFRA have released further details of how the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme will operate in 2022.

There are four core standards:

  • Arable and horticulture soils standard
  • Improved grassland soils standard
  • Moorland and rough grazing standard
  • Annual health and welfare review

Payment rates vary from £22/ha to £58/ha for land management options.  Health and welfare review offers an annual payment of up to £684 depending on species of livestock.

This is the first stage of Environmental Land Management (ELMS) and is additional funding on top of the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) which has received its first phased reduction this year.

All BPS claimants will be eligible for SFI and further details can be found at  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/sustainable-farming-incentive-how-the-scheme-will-work-in-2022
